I have used Otterbox Defender cases since the introduction of the Apple iPhone. When I got my iPhone 4, I upgraded to the original iPhone 4 Defender case and had one of the first ones off the assembly line. As with first iterations of anything (any new design), time and use in the field becomes the best learning experience for a design team. Concept is one thing, execution is another.When I got my first iPhone 4 Defender, I remember the silicone outer shell being a little loose in some areas and having a difficult time getting the silicone seated at the bottom charge port entry. It took quite a bit of adjustment to get the flap fitted just right and I recall mentioning this to someone at Otterbox and wondering if this was the norm for this case. Since I've had that case, I have always had to fiddle with the port flap. Well, having lived with the older case for about 2 years I finally upgraded to the Otterbox Defender in Gunmetal Grey/Envy green. I wanted something a little different from the standard black case I had always had.I noticed quite a few nice changes in this evolution of the Defender case that make it much more user friendly and sturdy. I am extremely pleased!- The silicone on the new case fits snugly and is less flimsy than the silicone on my original case. The die cuts of each flap on the phone (earplug, charging port and mute button) are created with edges that allow for great, snug seating on the port they are protecting. Almost a vacuum seal type of snug. This an a great improvement and shows the attention to detail that Otter takes when creating great cases.- The plastic inner shell was not as stubborn to open. Snapped open more easily and snapped closed more easily. Perfect fit!- The cutouts for the camera and speaker are roomier and more user friendly. No small crevices to get dust caught in.I have noticed that everyone in my EMS agency carries OtterBoxes. There is a reason for that, they are good and they work. This case provides great form and function and is attractive in it's own right. I've dropped my phone dozens of times and my Defender has done it's job, kept my phone in one piece. I am a fan of the Otter line of products and find that they cannot be rivaled.The holster for this case is functional and sturdy too. It works fine on my 1.75 inch webbed belt (on EMT pants).
